Strength in my Weakness

Last week, we were stuck in Appalachian Mountains during a spontaneous house-hunting adventure. Its been a long time since I’ve been so scared. However, there was a certain beauty, a certain comfort though the whole experience.

In those hours, alone on a abandoned mountain road with night falling quickly, we experienced incredible weakness. After trying everything we could think of, we were completely reliant on others to come and save us. We pursued everything in our power to save ourselves, but hit dead end after dead end.

Weak.

Alone.

Yet, not forgotten.

As we were stranded, the verses from my morning devotional kept coming to my mind-

“… I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:10

“For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong…” – 2 Corinthians 13:9

My goodness, it was challenging for me. What was there for me to be glad about? The fact that there was no foreseeable way we would get our car home? The fact that we were hungry and would be without food for hours? The fact that there was no rescue coming for us yet?

How was our car troubles supposed to give God any sort of glory?

Sometimes, it is in our weakness that God’s glory shines brightest.

No, he didn’t reign down from heaven and ‘save the day’. But rather, he stirred the compassion of others to set themselves and their night aside to save us.

In our weakness, they were strong. And he was glorified in their kindness, in their prayers, in their love. And, that, my friends, is something I can be glad about.

In my troubles, I can be glad that others are stirred to move. In my doubts, I can be glad that others have a opportunity to challenge and be challenged. In my weakness, I can be glad that others are strong. Ultimately, I can be glad that in my weakness, I can rely on a God who provides strength in his own, perfect way.

All the Glory be to my God.

  2. I hope their thyroid ilness gets improvement or tolerable. Many people have afflictions & must learn to live with it. My daughter has extreme type 1 diabetes & she has a constant injection machine connected to her. Every day is a blessing & she knows that she could go to sleep & never wake up again. Through this weakness we learn how precious time & love are so we are grateful. Some people never see a day’s moment as anything more than just another moment of time. If you look deep enough you can see where God gave us lessons to learn through real life experiences. Sometimes it is hard to understand it all but we are like children learning as we grow. Hugs! I enjoy the fact that people came to help & you all are okay. Amen
